Panasonic Lumix G9 Photo Quality

You can check out the Panasonic Lumix G9 Photo Quality Below.

Sensor

The Panasonic Lumix G9 comes with a 20.3-Megapixels Live MOS Sensor. Even after being a Micro Four Third Sensor, it Performs Excellently.

The Dynamic Range and Depth of Field of G9 are Great. It can perform decently in low light because of its size.

The Image Quality is really Sharp and Clear for a Small Sensor. Though, you won’t be able to play too much with the Raw files.

And JPEGs processing is of excellent quality.

Panasonic Lumix G9 has somewhat improved color science than its predecessors. So, the colors look decently close to the natural colors.

The Tiny Sensor helps it become Lightweight and makes portability easier.

Also, the Four-Thirds Sensor Size is an open standard for Freely Combining Lenses from Different Manufacturers. That gives you the freedom to choose almost any lens you want.

Processor

Panasonic Lumix G9 is powered by Venus Engine Image Processor

While recording 4K Videos, the Camera can write up to 150Mb/s. The Camera supports two UHS-II sd card slots.

The Processor also helps Panasonic Lumix G9 achieve an 80-megapixel photograph in a High-Res Shot Mode.

The Processor also helps the sensor shift and takes 8 photos to stitch them together.

Overall, the Processor of the Panasonic Lumix G9 is Fast and Powerful enough to give you amazing Performance.

AutoFocus

The Autofocus of Panasonic Cameras has been in doubt with their past cameras. And initially, the Lumix G9 was also criticized for the same issue.

But Panasonic released two firmware updates. After the second firmware update, the Autofocus has improved significantly.

Panasonic Lumix G9 provides you with 225 Contrast-Detection points. There are no phase-detection points, though.

You will find it easy to focus on your subject as it incorporates Body Detection Technology. So, instead of Detecting Faces and Eyes, the Camera can Detect a Body and lock it.

Though, you might face some issues if the subject is rapidly moving.

The Autofocus of Lumix G9 works Decently in low light. You get Fast and Decent Accuracy in Low Light.

But, you still need to know the recommended settings by the Panasonic to get the best out of the Camera’s Autofocus.

Overall, the Autofocus of the Panasonic Lumix G9 works excellently for photographs and works decently for videos.

Image Stabilization

Panasonic Cameras are known for their Leading Image Stabilization System. And Lumix G9 is one of them.

Panasonic Lumix G9 offers a 5-Axis IBIS that works excellently in every situation. It can help with your shaky hands while shooting.

Although there is a Small Crop on the video while Using Stabilization, it somehow looks pretty good.

The Stabilization works across all the resolutions and frame rates available in the Camera.

The slow-motion videos are very smooth too.

For me, the Image Stabilization of the Lumix G9 is Great and Accurate.

Shooting Speed

Pansonic Lumix G9 has a shooting speed of 9 FPS at 20.3 Megapixel. You can also choose from speeds like 12, 20 or 60 at 20.3 MP, 30 FPS at 18 MP, and 60 FPS at 8 MP.

With so many options, there are two limitations – Buffer-Size, and Autofocus. You only get about Fifty Frames Raw with 60 FPS or Sixty Frames Raw with 12 FPS.

Even though G9 clears the Buffer Quite rapidly, you might have to wait for a second or two for another session.

You can Easily Capture Birds, Flights, and Sports Activities with such speed and buffer size. The Autofocus of this Camera also affects the Shooting Speed.

Panasonic says that Single AF is geared toward the subject moving perpendicular to the Camera and not towards the Camera.

I think that the shooting speed of the Panasonic Lumix G9 is fairly fast for most use-case scenarios.

Exposure

Panasonic Lumix G9 can Handle Exposure Really Well. But because of its Small Sensor Size, the Camera lacks a Good Dynamic Range.

You get an ISO range of 200 to 25600 that can be extended up to 100 to 25600 for photos. For Videos, you only have an ISO Range of 200 to 12800 that can be extended to ISO 100 to 12800.

The Processor does its best to reduce the noise. Also, because of its Decent Dynamic Range, you can not pull the Raw Files too much.

And the Dynamic Range also affects its Low Light Performance, but the Processor handles that well.

I think that the exposure handing of the Panasonic Lumix G9 is excellent within its range. The Image Quality is Clear and Crisp.

Panasonic Lumix G9 Video Quality

You can check out the Panasonic Lumix G9 Video Quality Below.

4K Video

Panasonic Lumix G9 can Record 4K Videos at up to 60 FPS in 8-bit colors. You will not experience Overheating Issues while extensively recording 4K.

The Lumix G9’s Autofocus has Improved Significantly over time. The Camera pans smoothly between two Autofocus Points and is Responsive and Accurate.

And the 4k Low-Light Performance has also been improved. You will be impressed by the Video Quality Despite the Camera having a Fourth-Third Sensor.

Since it has a Small Sensor, I recommend you avoid using Higher ISOs. The Stabilization System helps in Recording Smooth Videos.

Lumix G9 inherits many features from Lumix GH5 but lacks certain video features like Shutter Angle.

After the Recent Firmware Update, you can record 4K in 4:2:2.

Full HD Videos

Panasonic Lumix G9 can record Full HD Videos at up to 60 FPS. It can also record Slow-Motion Videos at up to 180 FPS.

With any Frame Rate, you can Play Back the video in both Slow or Fast Motion. The Autofocus in Full HD Videos Works Fast and Accurate.

The Low-Light Performance of the Lumix G9 is also Very Decent. Also, the Stabilization works Excellently in Full HD Video Mode.

If you want to use 60 FPS, you Either Record in MP4 or AVCHD Format. But 180 FPS and 30 FPS are only available in MP4 Format.

You can use 24 FPS in AVCHD Format, which can be a problem for Editing Software to read. So, you have to be ready for extra post-production work when working with Full HD 23.98p.

Vlogging

Panasonic Lumix G9 is one of the Best Vlogging Cameras. It is pocket friendly and records one of the Best Video Quality.

Let me Start with the Ergonomics and Ease of Use. Lumix G9 has a Magnesium Alloy Body with Weather Sealing.

The Camera is Compact and Lightweight, which helps in Easy Portability. But more importantly, it is easy to hold it Single-Handedly.

Lumix G9 comes with an Articulating Screen that makes Vlogging Easier. The Menu System on this Camera is easy to learn. You will get used to it in 2-3 days.

You will find the buttons’ layout easy with lots of customization.

G9 allows you to Take 4K and Full HD Videos with great Clarity and Colors. And the IBIS also cuts down the need for a Gimbal.

Audio

Pansonic Lumix G9 comes with Decent Audio Quality. The Camera handles Windy and Noisy Situations decently.

But, You get limited features for Audio Recording. You will get the audio output in LPMC format while recording in MOV Format.

Also, You will get the AAC Output while recording in MP4 Format.

I recommend buying an External Mic if you want more control over your Audio. Because the in-camera mic can only provide you fixed options from -12 dB to +6 dB.

Panasonic Lumix G9 Features

You can check out the Panasonic Lumix G9 Features Below.

Weight & Portability

Panasonic Lumix G9 is a Compact and Lightweight Mirrorless Camera. The Sleek Design of the Camera helps in Easy Portability.

G9 weighs only 579 Grams Without a Battery and SD Card. With this Lightweight, you can shoot for a longer period without hurting your hands.

The Lightweight makes your backpack light and easy for portability.

You should take a Battery Grip, Extra Batteries, and a charger if you plan to take videos on your trip.

Build Quality

The Panasonic Lumix G9 is built with Magnesium Alloy and Polycarbonate Body. The moment you hold the Camera, it feels strong.

You can easily take Lumix G9 in rough weather conditions. It comes with a weather-sealed body that is known for its Durability.

The overall quality of the Dials and the Buttons are also very Reliable.

Ergonomics & Comfort

Panasonic ergonomics is one of the Best in the Market. The camera grip is pretty deep. You will have to keep a tight grip to hold the Camera perfectly.

Lumix G9 has Four Dials, a Joystick, and a Few Buttons. You get a Top Status Screen on this Camera to quickly check your settings.

Panasonic Lumix G9 is one of the Most Customizable Cameras on the Market. You can adjust all the settings as to your own needs.

The Ergonomics of the Panasonic Lumix G9 is great and make the Camera comfortable to hold.

The Panasonic Lumix G9’s Menu System is Decent. Although, I feel that Panasonic can improve its Menu System.

To be honest, Panasonic’s Menu System is easy for beginners to learn. But Because the Camera offers so much customization, it can be a task for a few people.

The quick Menu on this Camera is also very easy to set up and edit. You can just drag in and drag out the functions you need or don’t need.

Overall, the Menu System of Panasonic is well organized and provides many Customization Options.

Viewfinder

Panasonic Lumix G9 has a Large Electronic Viewfinder with a 3.6 Million Dot Resolution. This Best in Class Viewfinder gives you 0.83x Magnification.

Lumix G9’s Viewfinder has a Refresh Rate of 60 FPS to 120 FPS.

The EVF can show more information over and about your composition than an Optical Viewfinder.

EVF of the Panasonic Lumix G9 allows you to see the Waveform, Vector Form, and the Usual Histogram Directly in EVF.

Though, You Might Experience Some Lag in your EVF in Low Light. You can overcome that lag by turning off the “Constant Preview.”

Overall, the EVF of the Panasonic Lumix G9 works excellently in every situation.

Screen

Panasonic Lumix G9 offers you a 3.0-inch Fully Articulating Touchscreen. The Screen Resolution is only 1.04-Million Dot.

That being said, the Screen stays Bright and Clear in every condition. You can use the touch to Navigate through the Menu.

The Screen has many Shortcut Buttons that you can customize as per your need.

You customize a Function Button to Cycle Between the Minima, Informed, and Overly Informed Screens.

With Flip Screen, you can use the Lumix G9 for Vlogging and Recording Yourself with Live View.

The Camera also Features a Top Screen for Status Viewing.

Overall, Panasonic Lumix G9 has a very top-notch display screen. Vloggers and YouTubers will love the overall experience.

Battery Life

Panasonic Lumix G9 comes with an 1860 mAh DMW-BLF19 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery. You can shoot approximately 360 to 400 shots in one full charge.

The Battery Grip will Extend the Battery Life to Twice the Duration with a Second Battery.

But the real convenience comes with its charging options.

You get a Dedicated USB Charger with this Camera. And you can also Charge the Battery when it is inside the Camera.

The “Power Save LVF” mode in the Panasonic Lumix G9 can increase the battery life to about 800+ shots.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix G9 has a Decent Battery Life.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, the Pansonic Lumix G9 offers you Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. You can use the Camera with the Panasonic Image App remotely via your phone.

The Camera does not offer you any GPS Tagging ability, but you can access that in the Image App via your phone.

The speed of the Wi-Fi is Decent, but it Consumes a lot of battery power.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix G9 offers modern connectivity options. But the UI of the Panasonic App needs Improvement.
