Panasonic Lumix S1 Photo Quality

You can check out the Panasonic Lumix S1 Photo Quality Below.

Sensor

Panasonic Lumix S1 has a 25.9-Megapixel Resolution Full-Frame MOS Sensor

S1 has an AA Filter. Though, it does not have an Optical Low-Pass Filter. The Absence of the Low Pass Filter Increases Image Sharpness.

You will Love its Low Light Performance because of its Excellent Dynamic Range. It Manages Shadows Excellently with the Minimum Loss in detail at High ISO compared to other cameras on the Market.

Photos Taken in Daylight are Very Sharp and Clear. And the JPEG Colors are Close to Natural Colors. I feel that there is still Some Room for Improvement.

Panasonic Lumix S1 has a Very Powerful Sensor that Performs Excellently in all Situations.

Processor

Pansonic Lumix S1 has an Improved Venus Engine Image Processor. Over the years, Panasonic has worked hard to Improve the Processing Power of the Camera.

Lumix S1 has been Smart with its Noise Reduction Implementation.

Panasonic S1 gives you Amazing Noise Control in Low Light. And it can Preserve Noise in Low Light.

This gives you more control over Noise Reduction in Post-Production. This also prevents the Camera from Over-Correct any Image with Noise Reduction.

Also, the Processor provides you with many more features like High Res Mode.

You can take a 96-megapixel Resolution Photo with this High Res Mode. The Camera takes 8 Pictures while Shifting the Sensor and Stitches it together to give a Beautiful and Crisp Picture.

You also get a Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) Mode. The HLG mode lets you Record for High Dynamic Range Displays.

This is Mostly used for Broadcasting TV and opens a New Door of Opportunities for Indie Filmmakers.

Although its Post-Production Work is Very Resource Heavy.

Apart from these powerful features, S1 provides you with Two High-Speed Card Slots. One is a UHS-II Slot, and the other is an XQD Card Slot.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S1 has a Powerful Processor.

AutoFocus

Panasonic Lumix S1 uses DFD Autofocus Technology with Contrast-Detection.

Contrast Detection is more Accurate than Phase Detection. But it is not faster than the Hybrid AF System.

Although the Panasonic Team has introduced Several Improvements to its Technology.

The DFD Technology takes advantage of Improved Machine Learning Algorithms for Subject Detection.

You get about 225 Contrast-Detection Points. It can now Perform 480 Adjustments Per Second.

And, it can Easily Switch from Face to Eye to Body Detection. Also, it can Track a Subject if it Turns it Back to the Camera.

Although, S1 Performs Best when in Face Detection Point. And it is Constantly Looking for a Subject to Focus on, thus giving a Wobbling Effect.

Panasonic Lumix S1 provides you with Nine Autofocus Modes. That includes Face, Eye, Head, and Body Detection.

Also, Four Customizable AF Modes are available in the Camera. The Camera performs Excellently when the Subject is moving at a Low Speed.

Though, the Camera will Struggle if your Subject is Moving Rapidly. The Same goes for its Autofocus Performance in Low Light.

Overall, the Pansonic Lumix S1 has a Decent AF System that Performs Excellently.

Image Stabilization

Panasonic Lumix S1 is known for its Excellent Image Stabilization. It features a 5-Axis Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization System.

You get about 5.5 Stops of IBIS. And, if you use a Lens with Built-In IBIS, you will get 6-Stops of IBIS.

It compensates for Decent Handshakes and Vibrations. But there is one more feature that I am impressed by.

Panasonic S1 has a mode where a dot appears at the center of your Composition. And it moves as your Hand Shakes while keeping the Composition Still.

This is a Nice Tool for Beginners to learn to hold the Camera in a Better Way.

The IBIS of the Panasonic Lumix S1 performs excellently, but I Recommend a Tripod or a Gimbal for Professionals.

Shooting Speed

Panasonic Lumix S1 provides you with Decent Shooting Speed. You can shoot up to 9 FPS for 90 Frames Raw and 999 Frames JPEG.

You can get to another Burst Session quickly because of its Fast Writing Speed.

The Autofocus also Performs Decently in Continuous Shooting Mode. Although, the Camera can not Focus on the Unpredictable Rapid Movement of the Subject.

Panasonic Lumix S1 offers you a Decent Shooting Speed.

Exposure

Panasonic Lumix S1 can Handle Exposure Excellently.

Whether you use this Camera in Low-Light or Bright Daylight. It can Handle Shadows and Highlights very well.

S1 offers an ISO Range from 100 to 51200 for Photos and Videos. It can extend up to ISO 50 to 204,800 for Photos.

The Camera takes Advantage of Dual ISO Gain to output Beautiful and Clear Low-Light Photographs.

You also get to choose if you want to use Dual-Gain ISO or not.

Photos are Clear, Sharp, and Noise Reduction is taken care of Without Losing Details. Also, you can use Photos up to 25,600 ISO.

You will see Some Graining and a Tiny Loss of Detail.

But I recommend you to be careful with your choices. The Camera may choose to overcorrect some of your photos, and they start to lose details above 25600.

Overall, Panasonic Lumix S1 has Excellent Exposure Control, and you also get Decent Control over it.

Panasonic Lumix S1 Video Quality

You can check out the Panasonic Lumix S1 Video Quality Below.

4K Video

Panasonic Lumix S1 can record up to 6K Videos at up to 24 FPS with 1.15x Crop. 6K Videos can also be recorded in HLG Format.

You can also Record 4K Videos at up to 60 FPS in 10-Bit Colors with Anamorphic Lens Support.

The 4K Videos at 60 FPS also have a 1.5x Crop.

You can Record for Unlimited Time with a Low Frame rate. But there is a 29.59 Minutes Limit to High Frame Rate Video.

With Amazing Abilities Comes Two Downsides of this Camera.

First, the Camera does not offer Log Gamma out of the Box. There is a Paid Upgrade Required to Access Extended Video Abilities.

And Second the Autofocus of the Camera.

As you know, Panasonic uses Contrast-Based Detection with its DFD Autofocus Technology.

Although the Camera can Easily lock on to Slow-Moving Subjects. But, Rapidly Moving Subject can ruin your Video. It produces a Wobbling Effect in the Videos.

Full HD Videos

Panasonic Lumix S1 lets you capture Full HD videos up to 180 FPS.

The Overall Video Quality is Clear and Crisp.

The IBIS from the Camera will help you even more to give you a smooth slow-mo video.

The Autofocus of the Camera may work a bit faster in Full HD mode. But the Overall Performance is the Same as in 4K.

There is a good chance of a wobbling effect or it completely losing its Focus randomly.

Making videos with this Camera is fun, but the Autofocus is very sensitive.

I have already warned you if you want to video record some fast-paced action on this Camera.

Apart from that, the high frame rate in Full HD mode also gets a 1.5x crop.

But that is nothing to worry about.

Overall, Lumix S1 records Great Videos in both Low and Bright Light, but the Autofocus may ruin it.

Vlogging

Panasonic Lumix S1 may not be the Best Camera for Vlogging.

Let me tell you why.

First, it is Heavyweight.

The Camera Weighs Around 1Kg without Lens.

And it gets a few grams heavier if you put some lens and Battery on it.

On top of that, if you decide to use a gimbal, then imagine the Weight. You can not hold the Camera for a long time.

The second is the Screen.

This Camera does not feature a Fully Articulating Screen. Thus, you won’t be able to see yourself while Vlogging.

The third is Autofocus.

The Autofocus of S1 is a Bit Tricky. You have Different Modes for Different Situations.

And even if you get them right, there is a good chance that it may lose Focus in the middle of the Video.

I don’t recommend this Camera for daily vlogs with one Hand. But you could use it for Streaming.

Audio

Panasonic Lumix S1 has One Built-In Stereo Mic. The Mic can Record Decent Audio.

S1 supports Dual Channel Recording, and you export your Audio in AAC2 or LPCM Format.

It can decently Handle Windy and Noisy Situations. You can adjust the Audio in 31 Levels from -18db to +12db.

But you may want to use an external mic for more control over its Audio.

The Audio Quality of the Panasonic Lumix S1 is Decent for Enthusiasts, but Professionals may need an External Mic.

Panasonic Lumix S1 Features

You can check out the Panasonic Lumix S1 Features Below.

Build Quality

Panasonic Lumix S1 is a Very Durable Camera with Strong Chassis. It is Built-On Weather-Sealed Magnesium Alloy Body.

Lumix S1 is a Quite Heavy Camera. It Weighs about 1021 Grams with Battery and Memory Card.

You use Lumix S1 in as low as -10℃ without any Problem. The Dials and the Buttons the are Well Built.

You will have confidence in its Reliability in Almost Every Situation. Lumix S1 is Dust and Splash-Proof.

You can take this Camera Anywhere and expect it to Work Even in Harsh Conditions.

Ergonomics & Comfort

The first thing you will notice when you hold the Camera is its Weight.

Panasonic Lumix S1 is a Very Strong Built Camera. You feel like Holding a Stone in your Hand.

The Premium feel of the Dials and the Buttons is Fabulous.

Several Buttons on the Rear of the Camera are Illuminated for Better Experience.

An Improved Eight-Way Joystick replaces the old four-way joystick on the Camera. The customization on this Camera makes it easy to use the Camera.

You can control almost everything on this Camera.

The Illumination of buttons can be set to Always Illuminate or Illuminate when you press the Shutter Button.

The Lock Button can be Customized to Either Lock the Whole Camera or to Lack only Functions of your Choice.

Although there is a Learning Curve, things get sorted easily.

Panasonic Lumix S1 has a Very Well Organized Menu System. Although an abundance of so many features can be daunting for a newcomer or a beginner.

Panasonic Teams have Reworked the whole UI. You will See Better Colors and More Prominent use of icons.

The Main Menu is further organized into sub-menus for easy navigation. And the addition of menu filters makes it easy to filer and get work done faster.

The Panasonic team has also redesigned the Q-menu to give you different layout choices.

And what really impressed me in this section is that you can save your settings on an SD card.

You can then load that setting later whenever you need it.

This makes it easy to have complete customized sets of settings.

Panasonic Lumix S1 has reworked a highly customizable menu system while keeping it easy to use.

Viewfinder

Panasonic Lumix S1 offers one of the Highest Resolution EVF in the Market.

Lumix S1 has a 5.76-Million Dot Resolution EVF. You get approx 0.78 Magnification with 100% Coverage in the EVF.

The EVF has Two Options to choose from regarding Refreshing Rates.

You can Choose Between 120 and 60 FPS resolutions to suit your needs. And there is only a Minimum of 0.005 Second Lag in this EVF.

You will Rarely Face a Blackout Issue when you Shoot in Slow-Motion or Burst Mode.

The EVF also helps you with Displaying Waveforms and V-Forms for Efficient Adjustments to your Composition.

Although you may find it a Little Bit different when you put your Eye on a Round Viewfinder Cover.

Overall, Panasonic Lumix S1 has an Excellent Viewfinder.

Screen

Panasonic Lumix S1 offers you a 3.2-Inch Tilting Touchscreen LCD. It comes with a 2.1-Million Dot resolution.

The Screen can be Tilt Up and Down. You can also Rotate the Screen in one direction to help you while shooting Portrait.

You can use the Touchscreen in a Variety of Ways.

First, you can use the Screen to Navigate through the Menu.

Second, you can use Tap to Focus for better shots.

And Third, you can Swipe Between Images and Double Tap or Pinch to Zoom in and out of the Images.

All these features make this Camera Beginner-Friendly and Easy To Use.

Sadly, you can not Rotate the Screen to make it a Selfie Camera.

Apart from that, the Screen is Bright and Clear.

You also get a Top Status Display Screen to Quickly check your Current Settings and Adjust Accordingly.

Battery Life

Panasonic Lumix S1 comes with a 3100 mAh Battery. Somehow, the Battery can not Justify its Weight and Capacity.

S1 can only take up to 400 Shots per charge.

What I really like about the Camera is the Charging Options. You can Charge the Camera over USB-C. And, You can also Charge it while Recording.

The charge can be supplied with USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C cables.

Panasonic Lumix S1 has a Decent Battery Life with great Charging Options.

Connectivity

Panasonic Lumix S1 offers both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi as the Connectivity Options. And Even Though the Wi-Fi is Fast Enough, it consumes a lot of Battery.

So use it wisely.

Some users have faced Connection Issues. Where the Camera disconnects with your phone randomly out of nowhere.

But it is not that bad.

You can use your Phone to Remotely Operate via the Panasonic Image app.

Though Panasonic has Reworked the Menu System, the UI of the App is Still Poor.

Also, I like that you can Transfer Files via USB.

Unfortunately, there is No Geo Tagging Available within the Camera.

Pansonic Lumix S1 provides Powerful and Fast Connectivity options Considering USB Data Transfer options.
