Panasonic Lumix GH5 Photo Quality

You can check out the Photo Quality of the Panasonic Lumix GH5 Below.

Sensor

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 comes with a 20.3 Megapixel Live MOS Micro Four Thirds Sensor

The Micro Four Thirds Sensor has its own Ups and Downs.

You will not get the Best Low-Light Performance and Depth-Of-Field. Sometimes you might have Grains because of the Small Sensor Size.

Also, The Dynamic Range of GH5 is Average. There is no Low-Pass Filter to Increase the Image Quality of this Camera.

So, what about its Daylight Performance? The Lumix GH5 Performs Excellently in Daylight. You can Fix the Depth-Of-Field Issue with a Wild-Angle Lens.

The Colors are Bright and Vibrant, but the Skin Tones are Flat. GH5 performs Best at its Mid-ISO Range.

In Low Light Situations, the Highlights become more Bloated, and Shadows Become Darker. You will Love the Photos taken with ISO 100 to 1600 ISO.

After ISO 1600, you might start facing some Graining Issues.

The Sensor of this Camera will Perform Excellently if Proper Lighting is used. The Images will be Sharp and Clear in Proper Lighting.

But that does not mean that it can’t Deliver Excellent Quality Photos. All you need is a Proper ISO, and High Noise Reduction turned on.

Processor

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 has a Digital Live MOS Sensor. It has a Newly Developed Venus Engine Processor to help Improve Processing Times.

The Processor can help you in areas like Autofocus, Image Stabilization, etc.

But in this section, I will mainly talk about Noise Reduction, Buffer Size, and Writing Speeds.

The Processor in this camera is one of the Best at this Price Point. It has Excellent Noise Reduction Ability.

Although it will take about 10-15 Seconds to apply Noise Reduction, the results are Excellent.

The Second is the Buffer Size of the Lumix GH5. It has a Buffer Size of 65 Frames during RAW shooting. And Thanks to its Fast Buffer-Cleaning Speeds, you can get to Burst Mode Quickly.

The camera offers you Two UHS-II Speed Card Slots. That is one of the Best Configurations for Cards you can get on the market.

And Speaking of Writing Speeds, the camera can Write a 4K Video at 400Mb/s. That is Decently Fast in the Current Era.

Overall the Processor is Powerful and Can Take Great Pictures. But, most of its Power is Dedicated to Shooting Video than Photos.

AutoFocus

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 comes with Advanced DFD AF System that covers 225 Contrast-Detection Points.

The Autofocus of this Camera was the Most Debated Topic in the Community. Because you have to Choose the Exact Settings for that Scenario to work.

You can not Set One Setting and Expect the Camera to Adjust Accordingly.

According to the Panasonic official statement, they Recommend Selecting 1-Area AF in 30p or 60p Frame Rate.

Also, if you choose 24p, 1-are AF is Recommended by Panasonic.

If you need Subject Tracking, set the Mode to Responsive(+3).

And if your subject is not moving too much, you can use locked(-3).

But, I Recommend you Sit and Test different Modes Yourself.

So sometimes, Setting up the Autofocus System is the Tricky Part. Once you get hold of it, the Autofocus Works Fast and Accurate.

But one good Feature of this camera is the ability to make your own autofocus points pattern. You are not bound by the preloaded patterns by Panasonic.

You can draw any pattern on the screen and have autofocus points assigned accordingly.

Overall, the Autofocus in Panasonic Lumix GH5 is Decent. You just need to figure out the best settings.

Image Stabilization

The Image Stabilization of the Panasonic Lumix GH5 is Excellent. It offers you a 5-Axis Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization.

You can quickly shoot Without any Gimbal. And Stabilization works for Photos and Videos. It’s an excellent feature for Daily Vloggers.

Overall, GH5’s Stabilization System at its price point is a Great Deal.

Shooting Speed

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 provides you with Different Shooting Speeds in Burst Mode.

  • First, if you want to Shoot with Full 20.3-Megapixel Resolution Settings, you get up to 12 FPS.
  • Second, you can get up to 30 FPS at 18-Megapixel.
  • And Third, you can get up to 60 FPS at 8-Megapixel.

Also, you get a Buffer Size of about 600 JPEG and 60 Raw Files. As I Told you earlier, the camera Clears the Buffer Very Fast.

So, you can get back to it within a few seconds. You can easily choose from the options and use this camera for event photography.

Exposure

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 does not have a Decent Dynamic Range. As a result, it Becomes Difficult to Use its Whole ISO Range.

You get an ISO range of 200 to 25,600 that can be extended up to ISO 100 to 25,600 for photography.

And, for Videography, you get an ISO Range of 200 to 12,800 that can be extended up to ISO 100 to 12,800.

Also, it has a Metering Range from 0 to 18 EV.

If you are using the camera in a Controlled Environment like a Studio or Home, then it will Perform Excellently.

And it does not have the Best in the Market Low Light Performance in Photos. You will not be able to use the camera in the Lower and the Upper ISO Range.

One more thing Contributing to Exposure is Shutter Speed.

And the Panasonic Lumix GH5 offers you a max shutter speed of 1/16000 to 1/24 Second in Movie Mode.

Overall, you need to be skilled to extract the best photography abilities from this camera.

Panasonic Lumix GH5 Video Quality

You can check out the Video Quality of the Panasonic Lumix GH5 Below.

4K Video

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 can Record 4K Videos at up to 60 FPS Without any Crop. There are No Overheating Issues and a Limit of 30 Minutes.

And, you get to record all this with 10-bit color depth. The camera performs really well in low-light video recording.

The low-light performance of this camera in the video is better than in the photo. You can combine this ability with its top-notch IBIS to get clear and smooth 4k videos.

But, there is one downside to all this power.

Autofocus.

You might miss the focus if your subject moves quickly. Although it rarely happens in the video, I want you to be prepared for it.

Overall, the camera produces clear and stable 4K videos of excellent quality.

Full HD Videos

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 can Record Full HD videos at up to 120 FPS in 8-bit and 60 FPS at 10-bit color depth. And the quality is very sharp and clear.

Your videos will come out smooth with the excellent IBIS. You can also record slow-motion videos in Full HD at a max frame rate of 180 fps.

You are going to love this camera’s video abilities. The trade-off is that you can record slow motion in only 8-bit color depth.

Vlogging

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 is Overkill for Vlogging. Generally, you use such Powerful Cameras as an Upgrade. But the Price Point of the Lumix GH5 is Tempting.

And I recommend you to buy it anytime you can use it for Vlogging.

Despite being an old camera, the camera comes with excellent quality IBIS. That is crucial for any type of vlogging.

First, let me tell you about its ease of use.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 is lightweight and strongly built. It has weather and dust protection that makes it a Durable Option.

It is small in size and easy to carry when traveling, which leads to convenience.

The layout of the buttons is charming. And the camera is right-hand oriented. Buttons and dials are nicely spread out with proper labeling. And the menu system is well categorized.

And Vloggers can take advantage of its Flip Screen also.

The IBIS of this will help you shoot smooth videos hand-held.

It has decent battery life, so you don’t have to carry extra batteries while shooting vlogs.

The camera can shoot 4K and Full HD videos. It can also shoot slow-motion videos.

Also, The Camera Feels Sturdy in your hands and is excellent in video abilities.

The audio quality of this camera is also at the production level. The Lumix GH5 will also reduce your post-production work for regular videos.

The Pansonic Lumix GH5 is the Best Camera for vloggers or streamers at this price point with these features.

Audio

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 can record production-level audio. The audio recordings are loud and clear.

You can take this camera in windy situations, and the audio will also be decent enough.

The camera gives you less control over audio. And to cope with that, you might consider using an External Mic.

The internal audio system gives you AAC Audio and 2-CHannel AC-3 Audio. Vloggers can use this camera without any external mic.

Overall, the internal audio of the camera is decent enough for enthusiasts. And you can get more crispiness, depth, and control over audio with a decent mic.

Panasonic Lumix GH5 Features

You can check out the Features of the Panasonic Lumix GH5 Below.

Weight & Portability

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 is a Decently Compact Camera. Its dimensions are 5.5 x 3.9 x 3.4 inches.

You can Easily Carry this Camera anywhere without worrying about extra space. You can use this camera for daily uses hand-held because of its 725-gram body.

The weight of the camera balances the large lenses well. But I still recommend a tripod or a strap for long-hour usage.

And it won’t let you down if you plan to travel with this camera. It is capable of excellent video abilities and decent photo abilities.

Also, the battery lasts for long hours.

So, you won’t be worrying about keeping your batteries draining all the time. And its Flip Screen allows you to Vlog or Take a Selfie anywhere you want.

Overall, the camera allows you to get creative with its small dimensions and power.

Build Quality

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 is made with Magnesium Alloy. It is a Pure Metallic Body and feels sturdy in your hand.

The good weather-sealed body assures you performance in rough conditions.

But be careful about the mic. Usually, the mic is compromised early in the rain. But remember that the camera was launched in 2017.

It sometimes becomes too hard to find the parts of the camera. So, you will have to search hard for any part that gets damaged.

Also, One of the Easily Damageable parts is the Shutter. All the action photographers will need to take caution about how often they use burst mode.

Other than that, the camera is made to last long.

Ergonomics & Comfort

The Ergonomics of the Panasonic Lumix GH5 are some of the best on the market. The camera is well built, so it has a Deeper Grip.

That makes it easier to balance against the large lenses.

Once you spend some time with it, the camera will feel Intuitive.

That being said, the camera has four dials, a joystick, and 20 customizable buttons. You can customize these function keys as you need.

You can use the joystick for navigating the menu or selecting the focus point in the viewfinder. That helps if you quickly want to adjust the focus while looking into the viewfinder.

There is a separate video record button to start recording whenever you want.

Also, the camera has three shortcut buttons to change white balance, ISO, and exposure compensation.

Overall the camera is easy to use and easy to learn for anyone.

The Panasonic GH5 has a very Easy-to-Understand Menu System. If you are new to Panasonic, then you will need to remember a few things.

But once you get used to it, you will realize everything makes sense. The record button and settings buttons are grouped together for the same reason.

Icons are used effectively so that everybody can understand. And you don’t have to scroll a lot to find the settings you use often.

There are twenty customizable function buttons for you to assign shortcuts. That includes joystick directions and d-pad buttons.

So, you can assign any function to one of those keys if you don’t want to use them as directional keys.

All you have to do is hold that button for about 3-5 seconds. And then, you can scroll and set any function you wish.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 offers one of the most customization options in the market.

Viewfinder

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 offers you an Electronic Viewfinder. And Electronic Viewfinders have their own advantage and disadvantages over Optical Viewfinder.

The Main Difference is that EVF has a tiny lag, and OPF has zero lag. But, the EVFs can display extra information about your settings in the viewfinder.

And OPFs can not display anything extra other than your composition.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 EVF offers you Something Unique.

It offers you a waveform and vectorscope graphs to correct highlights in your composition before clicking a photo.

That saves a lot of time.

But, The Panasonic Lumix GH5 does not have issues while using it in Continuous Shooting. There is no flickering and no blackouts.

Screen

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 offers you a 3.2-inch Articulating Touchscreen LCD. You can conveniently take a photo or video at a difficult angle with the articulating screen.

And Vloggers will love this Feature as well. But, some users claim Brightness Issues with the screen.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 does not have Enough Brightness to be transparent under bright Sunlight. So, you will have to use Shade or your hand to cover the screen to see it.

You can tap the screen to reposition the autofocus area or pull focus in the video. And the camera is super responsive to autofocus repositioning or pull focus in video. It is one of the fastest in the market.

You can also reposition a live histogram or a waveform if it is in your way with a touchscreen. And there are soft keys on the screen that allows you to change settings quietly.

But one of the impressive things about the Panasonic Lumix GH5 is its slow-motion playback.

I think the Panasonic Lumix GH5 has made more the most of its screen than any other camera.

Battery Life

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 provides you with a battery of 1860 mAh. It offers one of the Best Battery Life.

The camera quotes to deliver Approximately 400 Shots with extensive usage. But you can extract almost 1000 Shots if you use its power-saving mode.

Although you won’t be able to use its screen in that mode which is a significant battery consumer. The camera can deliver up to two hours of video recording ability in 4K at 60 FPS.

You can use Battery Grips for this camera, but there is no USB Charging. Also, there are no overheating issues with this camera.

Connectivity

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 offers you Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connectivity. You can easily connect your phone with the camera and use it remotely with the Image App by Panasonic.

Although the camera itself does not offer a GPS Ability. But you can use Geotagging with your phone via the Image App.

Other than that, the App is responsive and fast. The file transfer speed between the camera and phone is also quick.
