Panasonic Lumix S5 Overview

The Panasonic Lumix S5 is a Mid-Range Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera. You get a 24.2-Megapixel Resolution Sensor that offers excellent Low-Light Performance and Dynamic Range.

The Image Quality is Excellent irrespective of the lighting conditions. Images are sharp and clear with Vibrant and close to Natural Colors.

Lumix S5 has a Venus Engine Image Processor that helps fast performance and prevents Heating.

You can Record 4K Videos at up to 60 FPS with 1.56X Crop. Using an External Recorder like ATOMIC, you can also record 5K Videos at 30 FPS with 12-bit.

S5 Can also Record Full HD Videos at up to 180 FPS.

The Processor also helps the Camera’s autofocus system.

You will get improved autofocus contrast-detection technology with the Camera.

The head detection is a new upgrade you will love in the autofocus system.

Also, the autofocus system for Video is decent, but it is excellent for photos.

And even though the Camera offers you up to 60fps of continuous shooting speed, you have to give up sensor resolution.

Apart from all these, the Camera also has best-in-class Stabilization to aid you in most situations.

Panasonic Lumix S5 has Decent Noise Reduction. You get an ISO Range from 100 to 51200 that can be extended up to ISO 50 to 204800.

Lumix S5’s Low-Light Performance is Excellent Due to its Noise Reduction Abilities. 

Apart from these Major Features, the Writing Speed is also Very Fast. But, the Camera only Supports One UHS-II Card Slot and One UHS-I Card Slot.

You will Love the Ergonomics. The Articulating Screen also helps you Take Photos at Difficult Angles Easily.

Panasonic S5 comes with one of the Largest EVF on the market but with a Low Resolution.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 is an Easy To Use Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera. It comes with Great Photo and Video Shooting Capabilities.

Sensor

Panasonic Lumix S5 has a 24.2-Megapixel Resolution Full-Frame CMOS Sensor. It comes with no AA Filter and Exhibits a Massive Dynamic Range. 

The Image Quality is excellent. You will experience natural colors in your photos. 

Also, the Low-Light Performance of Lumix S5 is Great. The Highlights and Shadows are properly managed even in low-light conditions.

Lumix S5 can handle Image Quality even at the High ISO Range. But, I don’t recommend you to increase ISO above 6400.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 has an Excellent Sensor that Shoots Sharp and Clear Photos.

Processor

Panasonic Lumix S5 has an Improved Venus Engine Image Processor. It gives Faster and Better Performance than previous Panasonic Cameras.

The Processor helps in Retaining Details even at high ISO. Also, the Noise-Reduction ability of the S5 has significantly increased.

The Processor also helps with High-Res Mode to capture a 96-megapixel Raw or JPEG Photo. Another advantage of such a Powerful Processor is the Live View Composite Mode.

This gives you Astrophotography Ability to Capture Excellent Image Quality. 

Apart from these features, the Processor also provides decent writing speeds.

The Camera offers you Two SD Card Slots. One supports UHS-II, and the other Card Slot supports UHS-I.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 has a Powerful Processor with the ability of Noise-Reduction and 4K Ability. Apart from these, the Processor also brings Improved Autofocus and Image Stabilization.

AutoFocus

Panasonic Lumix S5 uses DFD (Depth-From-Defocus) Autofocus System. The system is Fast, but the Accuracy is not as Excellent as Hybrid AF. 

Unlike Hybrid AF in the Competition, the Contrast-Detection Autofocus has much to Improve.

Panasonic has introduced Head-Detection alongside Face, Eye, and Body Detection in its AF System. You will Experience Fast and Snappy Autofocus.

Lumix S5 may Occasionally Lose Autofocus in Video mode when the Subject is moving rapidly.

So, the Panasonic Depth From Defocus System has space to improve. Although you are given Four Presets to Control AF, the Performance in Video Mode is Poor.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 has Improved Autofocus for Photos, but there is still some space to improve in Video Mode.

Image Stabilization

Panasonic Lumix S5 is known for its Excellent Stabilization Ability. You will get the Best-in-the-class 5-Axis Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization System. 

You will be surprised to see the gimbal-like Stabilization. It is a no-brainer offer for Vloggers gettings started.

You will have about 6.5 Stops of Stabilization by your Side. This will prevent most of the Shakes and Vibrations.

But, if you want to use it for production, I recommend using a tripod or a gimbal for Better Results.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 Gives you one of the Best Image Stabilization Systems in the Price Range.

Shooting Speed

To be honest, Panasonic Lumix S5 is not a camera for Dynamic Shooting. You get various shutter speeds with an electronic and mechanical shutter.

The Mechanical Shutter gives you up to 7 FPS Shooting for 24 Frames RAW and 999 Frames JPEG.

And the Electronic Shutter gives you up to 7 FPS at 24.2 MP.

The Autofocus Performance works Fine with Continuous Shooting. Continuous Shooting is more useful for Fashion or Product Photographers.

Overall, the Continuous Shooting Speed and Performance of Lumix S5 are decent but feel compromised.

Exposure

Panasonic Lumix S5 Handles Exposure Decently. Since the Lumix S5 has a Full-Frame Sensor, it has an Excellent Dynamic Range.

And thus, the Camera performs Excellently in Low-Light Situations. Also, Panasonic has introduced Some Shutter Optimization.

S5 uses an Electric Shutter when needed. Else, it reverts back to a Mechanical Shutter.

You get an ISO range from 100 to 51200 for photos and videos.

You can easily use images up to 12800 ISO. After that, you might see some Smudging and Graining after 12800.

Also, the Camera gives much more flexibility than the Previous Camera in Post-Production Edit.

You can Stretch the Raw frame accordingly to your need. And, the Panasonic Color Science will give the Best Results.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 has Decent Exposure Control and gives you Excellent Flexibility in Post-Production.

4K Video

The Panasonic Lumix S5 is a Powerful Camera to Shoot UHD 4K Videos. 

It also allows you to Record Videos of Quality as high as 5K. You can Record 5K Videos at 12-bit Videos Seamlessly.

Apart from Cinematic Quality Recording ability, the Camera can also record 4K Videos at up to 24 FPS in 10-Bit 4:2:2.

And, You can Record 4K Videos at up to 60 FPS in 8-Bit. But there is a 1.56x Crop in 4K Videos at 60 FPS.

The Video Quality of the Camera is just amazing. And the Excellent IBIS is just a Cherry on Top.

Also, the Autofocus is Decent while Recording 4K. You may lose your Subject more than often.

So, I recommend you to Rely Less on Autofocus and more on Manual Focus.

You will love the package that the Panasonic Lumix S5 gives you to record High-Quality UHD 4K videos.

Full HD Videos

Panasonic Lumix S5 lets you Record Full HD Videos at a Variety of Frame Rates.

You can Record Full HD Videos in 10-bit at up to 60 FPS. And you can also Record Full HD Videos at up to 180 FPS in 8-Bit.

There is No Crop in Full HD videos. And, You will Love the Color Grading Controls. The Autofocus of the Camera works Excellently in Full HD Videos.

And the IBIS helps you Record Smooth, Slow-Motion Videos. The IBIS Strength can Satisfy a Wide Variety of Users.

But, if you are Recording for Professional use, I recommend using a Gimbal or a Tripod for Zero Shaking in the Footage.

Also, the Noise Reduction Ability for Videos is Decent. As a result, I recommend you not go to extreme ISOs while shooting your videos.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 gives you Flexibility and Excellent Quality for Full HD Videos.

Vlogging

Panasonic Lumix S5 is one of the Best Full-Frame Mirrorless Cameras for Vlogging. It has Premium Build Quality with a Magnesium Alloy Body.

The Layout of the Buttons is also Very Spacious. And the Ability to Customize almost every Button helps you make this Camera truly yours.

S5 has an Excellent IBIS System.

You can Record Unlimited Full HD Videos at up to 120 FPS. You can use a Dedicated Slow-Motion Mode to Record Full HD Videos up to 180 FPS.

And, You can 4K Videos in 10-Bit Format at up to 60 FPS. You can also Record 5K Videos in 12-Bit at up to 30 FPS.

Apart from its Video Abilities, S5 also has Excellent Autofocus Abilities. Although the Autofocus in High Frame Rates may lose the Subject.

The Camera has Improved Autofocus that Records Gorgeous Sharp Videos. I have used this Camera for Vlogging and Absolutely Loved its Charging Options.

You can change the Camera even with a Type-C USB Power Bank. 

You get an Excellent Dynamic Range and Decent Noise Reduction in Low-Light Situations.

Overall, Panasonic Lumix S5 is a Powerful, Future-Proof Camera For Vlogging.

Audio

Panasonic Lumix S5 offers you a Built-In Stereo Microphone. You can either Record in AAC or LPCM Audio Format.

The Internal of the is a Bit Decent. You will definitely need an External Microphone for Good Audio Quality.

When you put an External Mic, be sure to put a mic with an anti-shock base. Because the IBIS of the Camera makes a Buzzing Sound, an External Mic will catch it.

Overall, the internal mic of the Panasonic Lumix S5 is for home use only. I Strongly Recommend an external mic for this Camera.

Weight & Portability

Panasonic Lumix S5 is a Compact Mirrorless Camera. It only weighs about 630 Grams.

You will Feel Enough Weight in your Hands to be confident about its Durability.

S5 is Easy to use for long hours. The only problem you might face is the lens choices to carry with you.

Build Quality

Panasonic Lumix S5 has a Magnesium Alloy Body. And it promises the same Build Quality and Durability as Previous Panasonic Cameras.

Lumix S5 is made to work in Ambient Temperatures from 0 to 32 C Approx.

Other than that, S5 is Weather Sealed. It is also Waterproof and Dustproof, but it is not Freeze-Resistant.

You can easily take out this Camera in Light Rain but not for a Long Period. The Dials and Buttons are also Reliable and Feel Premium.

The Panasonic Lumix S5 is Built Strong and gives you the confidence to use it in Harsh Conditions.

Ergonomics & Comfort

The Pansonic Lumix S5 has Premium Build Quality. The Dials Feel Metallic and Premium.

You may find the Grip to be a Little Bit Small. But that should not prevent you from Getting a Good Hold on the Camera.

You can easily strap the Camera around your neck without worrying about pain.

The Layout of the Buttons and Dials is Excellent and Spacious. You can reach almost every Button Single-Handedly.

The EVF and LCD Screens are among some of the Large Sizes on the market. As a result, it Becomes Easy to Play with your Composition and Change Settings Accordingly.

The Overall Design of the Camera Might Feel Boxy.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 is a Camera that you can use Comfortably without Getting Confused with Too Many Buttons.

Menu System

The Menu System of the Panasonic Lumix S5 is Very Beginner-Friendly. Panasonic has Smartly used Icons and Colors to make the Menu System Easy to Use.

Panasonic provides you with the Most Flexible Customization on the market. You can set the Camera to Suit your needs.

Or you can set the Camera to suit your needs in different situations. That is what buttons C1, C2, and C3 are for.

You can customize it just by Pressing and Holding the Button.

Also, the Camera shows you a Diagram in the Menu. That tells you which Button is assigned to which function.

The Panasonic Lumix S5 is one of the Most Beginner-Friendly Customizable Cameras on the market.

Viewfinder

Panasonic Lumix S5 uses a 2.3-million Dot Resolution OLED Display for its Electronic Viewfinder. 

The Resolution of the Viewfinder may concern some people. As there is Some Pixelation happening in the Viewfinder.

You will experience approx 0.74x Magnification with this Viewfinder and 100% Coverage. The Viewfinder supports 60 FPS and 120 FPS Refresh Rates.

But, you will not experience any Black Out while in Continuous Shooting. And, there is a Minimum Lag in the Viewfinder to Give you an Experience Close to an OVF.

You can Take Advantage of Built-In Histograms Displayed in the Viewfinder for more info on your current composition.

Overall, the Viewfinder of the Panasonic Lumix S5 is Decent.

Screen

Panasonic Lumix S5 has a 3.0-Inch Articulating Touchscreen LCD. It has a Resolution of about 1.8-Million Dots.

That being said, the Sharpness of the Screen is Decent. It is Very Responsive to Touch. 

But the Reduced Resolution may not satisfy some people.

You can Navigate through the Menu with the Touchscreen. And you can Tap on the Screen to use the Touch Focus.

The Brightness of the Screen is also Decent. You get about 7 Brightness Levels to Choose from.

Because the Overall Brightness of the Screen has been reduced to favor color accuracy.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 has a Decent Resolution Screen that does the Job Excellently.

Battery Life

Panasonic Lumix S5 offers you a Battery Life of about 440 Shots. And the Camera has Some Video Recording Limitations.

The Recording will Stop Automatically when the Camera’s internal temperature becomes too high.

Although, You can record Full HD videos without Heating Issues. The Camera is Made to Work in Ambient Temperatures only.

As a result, the Battery Performance may depend on the Outside Temperatures. 

One good news is that you can charge the Camera with a Type-C USB. So if you need extra power, you may attach a battery grip or a power bank.

And yes, you can charge the Lumix S5 while you are recording.

Panasonic Lumix S5 provides you with Decent Battery Life and Excellent Charging Features.

Connectivity

The Panasonic Lumix S5 has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Connectivity.

And there is no GPS Available in the Camera.

You can Easily Transfer Files from the Camera to your Phone via the Panasonic Image App.

Sometimes you may experience connecting issues with your Camera. And, I feel that Panasonic needs to work on the UI of the App.

The App still Feels Cluttered, and the Design used is a bit old. 

Panasonic needs to Introduce a Modern-Looking App to Cater Younger Audience.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix S5 provides you with decent connectivity options.

It is a Mirrorless Camera with a 30.3-Megapixel Full-Frame Sensor and a DIGIC 8 Image Processor.

This Duo outputs Excellent Image Quality and helps the Camera perform in Low-Light. Although the Camera allows slow-motion in only HD quality.

You can easily record 4K and Full HD Videos. And about 5655 Phase-Detection Points help you keep up with your Subject without any hassle.

You can rely on its Autofocus even in Low-Light situations. And even though the Camera supports your Hand Vibrations with Decent IBIS, a Gimbal is always Recommended.

The Camera also has a 3.15-Inch Articulating Touchscreen LCD. 

Otherwise, the Canon EOS R is one of the best cameras for enthusiasts and beginners.

Canon EOS R6

Canon EOS R6 is a camera best suited to wildlife, event, and fashion photographers.

You will get a continuous shooting speed of up to 20fps for 1000 JPEG frames.

And you will get the clarity and sharpness of a 20-megapixel full-frame sensor.

The DIGIC X image processor will always be there to take care of noise reduction in low-light situations.

It also helps you record 4K and Full HD videos in 10-bit and 8-bit colors.

Also, you can record slow-motion videos in Full HD quality.

The Nikon Z6 II is a mirrorless camera made with beginners in mind.

It has a 24.5-megapixel full-frame sensor and an EXPEED 6 image processor to deliver quality images and videos.

It gives you decent low-light performance and has a decent dynamic range to get creative.

You can record 4K and Full HD videos with this Camera with a recording limit of 29.59 minutes.

And the 273 phase-detection points help track the Subject in every frame.

You can use the IBIS of the Camera for your decent hand vibrations. But I recommend a gimbal or a tripod whenever necessary.

You also get a 3.2-inch tilting touchscreen LCD to play with.

The Nikon Z6 is a versatile camera for freshers and beginners.

Although professionals can use it as a secondary camera.

Canon EOS M50 Mark II

The Canon EOS M50 Mark II is a Mirrorless Camera with a 24.1-Megapixel APS-C Sensor and a DIGIC 8 Image Processor.

M50 Mark II has Excellent Noise-Reduction Ability and Performs Excellently in Low-Light Situations.

Also, it can Handle exposure really well in Non-Ideal Lighting. 

You can Record 4K, Full HD, and HD videos. Although you can record slow-motion videos in only HD quality.

And the Autofocus System is accurate and keeps your Subject in Focus.

It has a Hybrid Autofocus System with 143 Contrast-Detection and 99 Phase-Detection Points.

You can use its IBIS, but I recommend a Gimbal while Recording your Vlogs.

Also, you get a 3.0-inch Articulating Touchscreen LCD.

Overall, Canon EOS M50 Mark II is an Ideal Camera for Beginners.

Sony a7 III

Sony A7 III is one of the Best and Most Popular Mirrorless Cameras for Videographers.

You will get a 24-Megapixel Full-Frame Sensor Coupled with a BINOZ X Image Processor. Also, it has a Front-End LSI that makes Image Processing Faster.

A7III performs excellently in Low-Light Situations.

You can Record Sharp and Clear 4K and Full HD Videos. And Slow-Motion Recording is only possible with Full HD Quality.

You can rely on its 694-Points Hybrid Autofocus System to never lose your Subject.

Also, you get Decent IBIS and a 3.0-Inch Tilting Touchscreen LCD.

Panasonic Lumix GH6 

Panasonic Lumix GH6 has a 25.2-Megapixel Resolution Micro Four-Thirds Sensor with a Venus Engine Image Processor.

You get Great Photos and Videos in Idea Light. Though, the Camera Struggles a bit with Low-Light Conditions.

You can record 5K, 4K, and Full HD Videos. And, You can Record Slow-Motion Videos in 4K.

Also, You can Record up to 300 FPS in Full HD quality.

But the Autofocus System is not Impressive. The DFD Technology Developed by Panasonic uses 315 Contrast-Detection Points.

Manually controlling focus is the only way to handle the Wobbing Effect. The IBIS is one of the best in the industry.

You get a 3.0-inch free-angle tilting touchscreen LCD that helps you vlog easily.

Nikon Z5

The Nikon Z5 is a Mirrorless Camera used by Enthusiasts. It has a 24.3-Megapixel Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and an EXPEED 6 Image Processor.

This helps you get Decent Photos and Videos in Various Lighting Conditions. To be honest, Z performs Decently in Low Light.

You can Record 4K and Full HD Videos, but there is no option to Record Slow-Motion.

The Autofocus is also decent as it uses 273 Phase-Detection Points to Track your Subject.

And you can not use its 3.2-Inch Tilting Touchscreen LCD to Record Vlogs.

Overall, the Nikon Z5 can be a Good Backup Camera.

Canon EOS M6 Mark II

Canon EOS M6 Mark II is a Budget-Friendly Camera with a 34.4-Megapixel Resolution APS-C Sensor.

And it has a DIGIC 8 Image Processor for Powerful Computation. The Noise-Reduction and Low-Light Performance is Excellent.

You can Record 4K and Full HD videos with this Camera. And Full HD slow-motion is also available.

For Autofocus, the Camera uses 5481 phase-detection points. But it only offers Digital Stabilization for Video.

You also get a 3.0-inch 180-degree Tilting Touchscreen LCD.

Overall, the Canon EOS M6 Mark II is a Pocket-Friendly Mirrorless Camera.

Panasonic Lumix GH5 

Panasonic Lumix GH5 is a Mirrorless Camera with a 20.3-Megapixel Four-Thirds Sensor. And it has a Venus Engine Image Processor for Excellent Noise-Reduction.

This helps the Camera perform excellently in low light. You can Record 4K and Full HD videos.

But, there is no option to record slow-motion videos on this Camera.

Also, the Camera uses DFD Technology for Autofocus. Which still has some Room for Improvement.

You will Sometimes find the Camera Hunting for its Subject, giving you a Wobbling Effect.

But it offers best-in-class Stabilization on the market. You also get a 3.2-inch Articulating Touchscreen LCD.
